2012 Verdelho... Hunter 'White Burgundy'

So much fuss about new varieties that "suit the Australian climate", many of which are as unexciting here as they are in southern Italy or wherever they come from, but forget about some unheralded varieties that have provided great drinking pleasure for decades.

Unbeknown to most verdelho provided the flesh for many famous Hunter "white burgundies" of years gone, and occasionally shone as a single varietal. This reminds me of that style with its gentle white florals and fleshy palate, with a touch of "Hunter hay" on the dry finish.
