Grape Hunter Reviews

Posted

Our new 2012 Bilgavia Estate Hunter Valley Blanc de Blanc was reviewed by The Grape Hunter's Gilbert Labour

"The skittle-shaped bottle, restrained but striking label, pale lemon colour and fine persistent bubbles, all attract the eye and set the taste bubs in drool mode.

A whiff of confection and autolytic nuttiness on the nose overlays tones of white citrus flowers .The immediate palate is rewarded by lively natural lemony acid and a touch of musky exotic feijoa fruit. The long palate is carried by the same clean acid backbone with an underlay of caramely liquering.

This Chadonnay based sparkling , the first release from the Bilgavia Estates winery now owned and run by Leona and Phil Gunter, in the Hunter Valley of NSW is a refreshing sparkling which pleases and entices to yet another glass. It hit the spot as an aperitif at the recent Mothers' Day lunch.

Its price point pitches it firmly amongst more established contenders. However, it will undoubtedly find its own niche both at cellar door and in the repeat mail order market."
