Our Vineyards

Bilgavia Estate is located at Milbrodale, within the Broke Fordwich region in the picturesque Hunter Valley.

The vineyard is a family owned business and has been found to have vineyard plantings that dated back to as far as 1820. It is comprised of 10 hectares of Shiraz, Semillon and Chardonnay; the classical Hunter Valley varieties, and in 2012 plantings of Tempranillo, Fiano, and Pinot Noir were added to the vineyard.

Broke Fordwich is a short distance from Pokolbin and is surrounded by the Brokenback Ranges and iconic Yellow Rock.

Within the Broke Fordwich region are some 36 vineyards. The region has a range of soils, from gravelly sandy loams to rich volcanic basalt soils. With careful site selection for our vineyards, each variety is located on soils best suited to the grapes.

Broke Fordwich is known as the tranquil side of the Hunter Valley and was the first viticultural sub region to be designated in Australia. This was in recognition of the unique micro climate and soils of the region, giving it a distinct and recognisable difference in its wines, to the rest of the Hunter Valley.
